To give your blog or business website a public and customised branded web presence, it’s a good idea to register your domain name.

If you’re using a free web hosting service to host your site, chances are the URL will include the name of the host. A self-hosted website allows you to remove that third-party branding from your site’s web presence.

A prime example: http://diywptips.wordpress.com/

You’ll note that the address bar in your browser doesn’t include the word “wordpress” – it should look like this:
