Definition:

An Image Alt Tag is an HTML attribute that lets Search Engines and spiders know what an image is – they’re effectively a description of what the image shows. “Alt Tag” is a common way to refer to the “alt” attribute of an image.

They are also used by screen readers to describe an image to visually impaired visitors to your website.

Google places high importance on Alt Tags for images - using them correctly will help your blog post's relevance to the topic of the post and also help with SEO Juice!
Usage:

Use Alt Tags to describe images included within your blog posts. Every image should have an Alt Tag, however they are not a requirement.

Pro Tip:

Use your SEO keywords in an image alt tag for extra SEO Juice – but be careful not to overdo it, and make sure your descriptions are genuine!
